If you follow me on social media, then you know that I attended the Blogher 2015 conference. Blogher is the world’s largest conference for woman content creators. You are able to meet and connect with bloggers of all kinds in one place. It’s a 2 day conference jammed packed with sessions, sponsor events, keynotes and just an all around amazing experience. I highly suggest you go at some point in your blogging career, it’s totally worth it. (And hopefully you get a awesome brand to sponsor your trip like I did!) I knew that I would be doing a lot of standing, walking so comfortable attire was a must but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t be cute. So here what I wore. (And can I say that these skirts from Das Rock Haus are both fashionable and comfortable)
The event kicked off with a party in the expo hall featuring vendors like Dyson, World Market, WordPress, and Best Buy to name a few. My goal was to connect with brands that are important to me and of interest to my site and my readers.
After the expo hall closed down the “after parties” began. Food and drinks where everywhere at this point and new friends are made and old friends are reconnected. I was surprised at how many people I knew from the online community and how many people knew my site. The internet is a fabulous thing. I closed down the after party which is pretty amazing considering I typically go to bed around 10pm. I didn’t go to bed until 2am most nights and I am still paying for it.
In between keynotes there were breaks to visit the Expo Hall and attend blogging breakout sessions on a variety of educational topics. I attended a few great social media sessions as well as business sessions. I also maximized my time in the ExpoHall by connecting with brands and bloggers.
Here I am with Sally from Sally’s Baking Addition. It’s pretty neat that she has her own cookbook through blogging don’t you think? Best Buy was giving away signed copies at their booth and the book is gorgeous.
Those are my highlights from the actual conference but it doesn’t even tap the surface, check out my Instagram for a complete behind the scenes look.
After the conference the closing party sponsored by McDonalds kicked off at Pier 84. Im not huge on fast food but at this point I was so tired and hungry that I ate 3 happy meals. Delicous! Everything was being served out of a neat food truck and passed by waiters, so fun.
Sorry “O Magazine”, to hell with only wearing a crop top if you have a “flat stomach”#RockTheCrop #SorryNotSorry
According to the magazine you should only wear a crop top if you have a flat stomach.
Fashion blogger Sarah Conley, took to her website, Style It, to reply:
Last night, my friend Tamar tagged me the above Q&A she came across while reading O, The Oprah Magazine. I was shocked to see this kind of body shaming language from any magazine, much less one named after a woman who has had her weight scrutinized throughout her career. Furthermore, I’d hoped in the era of the fatkini, plus size bloggers, and Instagram hashtags that we’ve moved beyond such narrow-minded thinking, but I can see now that it’s time for a show & tell.
She called for people to showcase their crop tops using the hashtag #RockTheCrop:
People continued to fight back against the magazine’s body-shaming:
Plus-size model Tess Holliday, who started the #EffYourBeautyStandards movement, joined in:
Whether people are using #RockTheCrop or any of the other hashtags, the movement shows no sign of stopping.
Women are going against the magazine’s advice in the most badass way.
I am exited to announce that I will be attending blogher this year thanks to DasRockHaus. I have a BlogHer Conference on my must attend list since I started blogging and now i finally get to attend!
The day I received my Registration for BlogHer was like christmas (It actually was) and was one of the most exciting days I’ve had since I started blogging.
How will I make connections with people at a conference with over 3,000 attendees?
I joined Facebook Groups for BlogHer15 Attendees. The first was the Official Going To BlogHer Group and the other group BlogHer15 Awesome Attendees was created by other Attendees to make everything less stressfulI and get to know other attendees. These two groups have helped me put my nerves to rest and answered any and all questions I had as well as let me meet a ton of other attendees before I even arrived at the conference.
I also found the BlogHer App which is the most awesome ideas EVER!
This App not only let’s you create a Profile to connect with other Attendees but you can also start planning your BlogHer sessions and activities as it includes a list of the Exhibitors, Maps of all sessions and sponsors, Agenda for the Conference, Speakers, News Alerts and So Much MORE!
I have used the App daily since downloading it and I know that once the conference starts it will probably be my most valuable tool.
